For many, Boca Raton, Florida is a dream retirement destination with its beaches, warm weather, a classic downtown featuring great shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Solo retiree Mary Ellen Morgan relocated there and is loving it. Although the real estate is somewhat pricey, Many Ellen saves money in a variety of other ways including having dinner during restaurant “happy hours.” Join us as we talk to Mary Ellen about this quintessential Florida beachside town on Episode 125 of Retire There with Gil & Gene.

Mary Ellen Morgan

Mary Ellen Morgan was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. After one too many monumental snowstorms, Mary Ellen and her best friend moved to Dever, Colorado sight unseen. [DENVER?] Mary Ellen stayed in Denver for 40 years, until she retired and moved to Boca. Mary Ellen has a BS in Business from Regis University in Denver and holds numerous professional insurance designations, including a CPCU (short for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter).
Mary Ellen worked for Allstate Insurance for 39 years, with the 1st half of her career in its Claims Department. She started the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) for a 9 state region and managed its large Claims office of 86 people. The latter half of her career was in Sales management, where she assisted existing agents grow their business and recruited new agents. She retired from Allstate at 62 and has not worked a day since. She has two sons who were born and raised in Colorado, one lives in Boca the other in Ft. Lauderdale.
Mary Ellen loves to travel and has been to 48 countries and 38 states. She has planned trips to Italy, Spain/Portugal and Boston for the next few months. She also loves live music, going to the beach or pool, being out in the sunshine, hiking, bike riding, shopping, going to the gym and reading. She averages about a book a week.
