Paul and Gloria met in Baltimore, Maryland. They spent their honeymoon traveling around Mexico, which was Gloria’s first exposure to Latin America.
On April Fool’s Day 2009, they left the U.S. for Costa Rica with 12 suitcases, two laptops, one trunk, and their cat, Cleo. They moved to Costa Rica to simplify their lives and to retire less expensively—and much sooner—than they ever could have in the U.S. Having graduated from a university in Mexico, this move fulfilled a life-long dream of Paul’s to live in Latin America again and Gloria’s desire for some adventure.
