E76 Retire in Steilacoom, Washington

Peggy Cleveland grew up a military brat, served in the Army for 12 years, and was a military spouse until her husband retired from the service. It’s no surprise, Peggy has literally been around the world and has moved 33 times. Being exposed to so many locations, where would such a person choose to retire? Not long after she and her husband Richard saw the place, they knew the quaint town of Steilacoom, Washington was for them. Find out more about this gem of a town in the Tacoma, Washington area of the Pacific Northwest, on Episode 76 of Retire There with Gil & Gene.

Peggy Clevelend

Peggy Cleveland was born and raised in San Diego, California till she was 11. Things got interesting after that. She has moved 33 times in her life and attended three different schools in one year. All that moving stems from being part of a military family; Peggy served in the military also and married a military man.
She started college at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA and due to health issues moved home to Annapolis, MD (her home at the time) MD and completed her Associates Degree.
She then joined the Army and finished her degree at State University of New York, Regents College.
Peggy served in the Army Reserves as a photojournalist then became active duty in Military Intelligence, six years enlisted, and six years as an officer. She then became a stay at home Mom while continuing the Nomad Military Life.
She loves to write anything involving travel and currently works as a travel writer. Her work can be found in Northwest Travel and Life Magazine, 253 Lifestyle Magazine, as well as other regional publications. The name of her travel blog is “Peggy, where should I go.” As for hobbies, she likes hiking and visiting unique sites. She is also a food and wine lover which is a big part of travel. Last but not least.
Richard Cleveland was born in California. He served in the Army for 28 years before retiring from the military. He currently works for the Army as a civilian.
The couple met in South Korea where they were both stationed. They have two sons. Onel is serving as a dog handler for the Army and the other is attending college to become a commercial pilot and he serves in the Air Force Reserves.
