Retire in Fort Collins, Colorado - EP 214

Retire in Fort Collins, Colorado - EP 214

Where can a writer, editor, illustrator, and avid mountain-sports enthusiast find solace and inspiration in semi-retirement? For Peter Moore, the answer was clear: Fort Collins, Colorado. This vibrant college town is celebrated for its thriving arts scene, live music, theater, craft breweries, and easy access to both ski resorts and Rocky Mountain National Park.
After being laid off from a high-level position at a national magazine, Peter and his wife Claire decided to turn the page and start a new chapter in Fort Collins. Today, they’re living their dream in the foothills of the Rockies.

Hear their full story—and how they found their own “Rocky Mountain high”—on Episode 214 of Retire There with Gil & Gene.

Bonus: Peter has written in his diary every day since he was 22, and now shares his humorous, illustrated stories on his popular Substack. Check it out at PeterMoore.Substack.com.

Peter Moore

Author

Peter Moore was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, about which P.T. Barnum famously said "A sucker is born every minute." He has held various positions as a writer, illustrator, ghostwriter, co-author, radio host, TV guest speaker, editorial consultant, and journalism lecturer. He received a degree in English from Bates College in Maine, then took off for France after graduation. After he’d had enough of footloose post-collegiate shenanigans, he landed a job writing all of American history for a publisher in New York, then worked for technology/futurist magazine called NEXT, then he worked for a movie magazine called MOVIEGOER in Knoxville Tennessee, where he met his wife, Clare. Next he was called up to the big league of publishers and worked for Playboy Magazine, eventually becoming articles editor. After that, he spent twenty years at Men's Health magazine in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, finishing up as vp/editor before they laid him off. While at Men’s Health, Peter wrote a feature article called “A Tale of Three Hearts,” which garnered the magazine’s first National Magazine Award, The industry’s equivalent of an Oscar. Peter is an avid mountain climber, backpacker, skier, basketball player, bicyclist, yogi, international traveler, illustrator, and cook. And he can juggle. (Of course he can!). Peter’s blog is Road2Elsewhere.com.
