Chuck Casselman

Chuck Casselman was born and raised in San Diego, California and lived there most of his life. He majored in Computer Science at San Diego University. He began his career as a software engineer and moved into senior management positions in the aerospace industry. He retired in 2019. His interests include fishing, hiking, gardening and travel.
Mary Casselman was born in Connecticut and grew up in San Diego. Mary was in the high-tech computer industry for many years and then transitioned to office management at a commercial truck dealership in San Diego. She enjoys hiking, gardening and travel. Mary is traveling today and unable to join us.
For much of their lives, Chuck and Mary loved living in San Diego. What’s not to love??? But in late 2017, they had an epiphany. They arrived at the conclusion that it would be difficult to retire in California due to high tax increases, extremely high cost of living and horrible traffic. An exploratory trip to Costa Rica in November of 2017, they fell in love with the country and decided to buy land and build a house in Playa Flamingo. Construction started in November of 2018 and was completed in a little less than a year. And what a house it is, we have seen photos and the home is simply stunning. They wanted to share the story of their life-changing move to Costa Rica. So, they created a website, called Going Pura Vida, to tell of their journey, successes and mistakes, and to help others who are considering a transition to the pure life of Costa Rica.
