Dave Hughes

Author

Dave Hughes was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio. He attended The Ohio State University. Before retiring early at age 56, Dave was a software engineer for 34 years, working for companies such as Intel Corporation, McDonnell Douglas Space Systems, and NCR Corporation. Throughout his career, his assignments included software development, customer support, training, course development, and management. He says he is “happily retired” but he seems to be working as hard as ever. Although now, he is pursuing what he loves, writing. Get this Gene, Dave has written a book on places to retire. [GENE: Gee, why didn’t we think of that? GIL: We did, but I don’t like to write or read for that matter. That is why we are doing a podcast on the subject]. Dave’s book is titled The Quest for Retirement Utopia: How to Find the Retirement Spot That’s Right for You. And he has written two other retirement lifestyle planning books: (1) Design Your Dream Retirement: How to Envision, Plan For, and Enjoy the Best Retirement Possible AND (2) Smooth Sailing Into Retirement: How to Navigate the Transition from Work to Leisure. On top of that Dave created the website RetireFabulously.com, and yes I said FABULOUSLY. Dave says the website enables readers to envision, plan for, and enjoy the best retirement possible. In addition to writing hundreds of articles for RetireFabulously.com, Dave’s work has appeared on US News & World Report, Medium, Yahoo! Finance, CNN/Money, Next Avenue, and others. Last but not least, Dave has published two novels with more on the way. Dave’s website is AuthorDaveHughes.com.
Aside from his writing, Dave is also a jazz musician. He plays trombone and steel pan in various bands in the Phoenix area. He owns an embarrassingly large collection of jazz, Brazilian, exotica, steel band, jazz/rock, and vocal ensemble CDs and videos.
